Ferrets Adopted in 2003 Bob
(ADOPTED 12-22-03) is full of personality. Hs wrestles and wardances. He sometimes does a little nipping when excited. Bob has been
trying to establish dominance in the ferret room and is segregated because of the intensity of his domination attempts. Although he arrived with another ferret (Cassie), he should do fine as an only provided he gets
lots of time and attention from his human. Bob is about 1½. He had his vet check and distemper shot on 7/15/03. Racoon (ADOPTED 12-24-03 ) is a
light sable, about 1½ years old. He had surgery in March for a torn tendon in his shoulder and has full recovered, although he will probably develop arthritis as he gets older.
Harry and Sally, Swipers and Trapper, and Gomer (ADOPTED 12-13-03 ) Trapper is about 1½ years old. He was live trapped by a
person who had expected to find a raccoon in the trap. Trapper is very sweet and loves people. He was underweight and dehydrated when he arrived, but he is drinking well out of a bowl and has a great appetite. He was
vet checked and had his distemper shot on 11/11/03. Chawie and Cueball (ADOPTED 12-5-03 )
arrived on 9/15/03 with a third ferret that was very ill and subsequently died. Cueball underwent a total of three surgeries to
address bladder stones and related problems, beginning on 9/19/3. He has now fully recovered. They saw the vet on 9/16, but did not have distemper shots until 10/21/03.
They are very friendly and are good candidates for adoption although they are approximately 5 years old.
Hercules (ADOPTED 12-5-03 )
is a three-pound fluff ball. He is 1½-2 years old. He is very playful and sweet. He would like a home with another playful ferret. He was originally adopted in late July, but was returned in early November
because the household had changed. His distemper is good until 7/14/04. He was vet checked on 11/7/03. Pippa (ADOPTED 11-30-03)
is a female and is very large for a girl. Had vet check and distemper on 8/8/03. Pippa had a mild vaccine reaction. Bandit (ADOPTED 11-30-03). Bandit
is a very sweet sable female, about 2½ years old. She is fairly mellow, but very nice and still playful. Vet checks and distemper shots were done on 11/13/03. During this check up, it was noted that
Bandit has a very slight heart murmur, which the vet does not believe is any cause for concern, but which may explain her mellow temperament. Nikko and Echo (ADOPTED 11-26-03). Nikko
is 7 months old; his friend Echo is 1 year, 4 months old. They are very playful and friendly. They were surrendered because a new baby made it difficult for their owner to give them enough time.
They had a vet check and got their distemper shots on 11/13/03. Wilma and Betty are sable girls
(ADOPTED 10-17-03) reported as a year old. When they arrived at a FVF halfway house, they were shy and shook
when being held, but they quickly settled in and became much more social. Wilma would give light bites when she felt threatened, although she stopped
that after a few days. They both used a litter pan consistently. FVF attributes the initial fearfulness to strange surroundings both at the humane society and
then at the halfway house. On arriving at FVF and going into the general ferret population, they adjusted well and should do fine once adopted. Vet check and distemper done 8/5/03.
Sporty (ADOPTED 10-17-03) arrived with other ferrets who either have been adopted, or cannot be adopted because
of their health. Sporty is a blind male, 4 1/2 to 5 years old. He is very curious and is a snuggler. He seems happiest when snuggling with other older ferrets. His vet check and distemper shot was done on 8/12/03.
Jake (ADOPTED 10-17-03)
is 4½-5. He underwent adrenal surgery on 11/15/02. Because the tumor was on the right gland, it could not be completely removed, but the
outcome is still expected to be positive. He is a good boy, blind in one eye. He had his vet check and distemper shot on 11/8/02.
Archer and Strider
(ADOPTED 10-17-03) are males between 2 and 2½. They arrived at Bay Area Humane after being left in an apartment when the tenants moved. According to the
FVF foster family where they stayed immediately out of BAHS, Strider would nip gently when he was nervous, almost as if to say "give me space". This behavior pretty much disappeared as he started feeling more
secure. Neither of these boys had seen a litter pan prior to arrival, but they are starting to get the idea. They were vet checked and had their distemper shots on 9/12/03.
Asa, Zorba and Dove (ADOPTED 10-17-03)
were all found stray in different areas of Oshkosh within a one week period. They are very playful and active. According to the people at Oshkosh Humane, they took to each other
immediately, so we would like to try finding them a home together. They are all young, probably under a year old. Their vet check and distempers shots were done on Oct 1, 2003. Missy Moo and Tinkerbell (ADOPTED 10-12-03) are young females. Missy Moo is reportedly 6 months old, while
Tinkerbell was reported as 11 weeks but appears slightly older (perhaps 4 months, rather than 3). They are sweet, playful and VERY energetic. They had their vet check and distemper on 9/26/03. Patchwork (ADOPTED 10-12-03) (badger stripe mix of gray and brown) and Sebastian (albino). Patchwork is about 2½; Sebastian is close to 2. Patchwork tends to
be a little rough when she plays but is very lovable. The previous owners believe she is partially deaf because she did not come when they shook the treats and did not usually
wake up when the cage was opened. When she plays with the other ferrets she squeals loudly even though she is not being hurt. She does tend to bite a little hard sometimes when
she gets really excited so she will need to be with a family that is very patient. Sebastian loves to run around and play tag. He is lovable and loves to play. They arrived with three
other ferrets including Peanut and Kender. Vet check and distemper are scheduled for 7/28/03.
Midnight (ADOPTED 10-12-03)
is a beautiful silver male, about 2 years old. He was surrendered because of "aggression" toward other ferrets, although we have not seen any signs of that here. He is very
people friendly and according to the family in our foster home he is very affectionate with children. Midnight is a fussy
eater, and will not take any ferret food or premium kitten food. He DEMANDS purina kitten chow or he will not eat. His vet check and distemper shot was done 10/10/03. Dobi (ADOPTED 10-12-03) is approximately 3 years old. . Dobi is a good sized dark sable male. Vet check and distemper done 8/5/03. Kanga (ADOPTED 10-12-03) arrived with two other ferrets who cannot be adopted because of their health. Kanga is
female 4 1/2 to 5 years old. She is quiet and likes to play. According to her previous owners she is a "sometimes lover" who likes to hide in draws. Vet checks and distemper shots were done on 8/12/03.
Pepsi and Cookie ADOPTED 9-28-03 Sasami and Penelope ADOPTED 9-15-03
A big "thank you" to Connie K for keeping the family together! Sasami and Penelope
are 4-year-old females. They have been together all their lives
and must stay together. They are playful, but do a little nipping. Sasami reportedly will steal any type of remote control. Penelope likes stuffed animals. They can get very
territorial when they feel that other ferrets are crowding or trying to dominate them. This territorial behavior got them nicknamed "the attitude sisters" at a recent pet expo. Their
vet checks and distemper shots were done 6/24/03.
Baby ADOPTED 9-14-03 Baby is a 3 1/2 to 4 year old male. He reportedly had lived with another ferret, and at first seemed very anxious to play
with other ferrets. However, once he was dominated by another male, he became very nervous around other ferrets.
FVF believes he would be able to adjust to life with another mellow ferret about his age, if given time. He is very people
oriented and loves to play. His vet check and distemper shot were done on 8/22/03. Leo ADOPTED 9-14-03 Leo appears to be about 1½. He is a dark sable who is very nice and likes to play and have
attention. He is adjusting to life in the general ferret population and seems to like all but the very dominant males. He had a bout of what appeared to be stomach flu when he first arrived at FVF from
Fox Valley Humane (he was a stray) but he has fully recovered. His vet check and distemper shot happened on 7/22/03.
Casanova and Willow ADOPTED 9-15-03 Casanova and Willow
arrived with Sasami and Penelope. Casanova is reportedly 5, while
Willow is reportedly 4. They are very sweet and playful, but have done a little nipping during play. Casanova had adrenal surgery on 6/30/03. Because the tumor was on the right gland, it
could not be completely removed, but the outcome is still expected to be positive. Their vet checks and distemper shots were done on 6/24/03.
Peanut and Kender ADOPTED 9-10-03 Peanut (a brown sable) and
Kender (a champagne sable) are about three years old. According to the previous owners, both are very friendly and playful but do like to dig a little on
the carpets. Vet check and distemper are scheduled for 7/28/03. They arrived with three other ferrets, including Patchwork and Sebastian.
Additonal ferrets adopted September 2003: Auggie 9/1/03
Blue 9/1/03 Chubby (reunited with owner) 9/12/03Cinnimon ADOPTED 9-12-03 Cinnimon
is a female born 9-18-01. She is very sweet and has reportedly been around kids and other animals, although she seems a little hesitant around other ferrets. She is deaf, but has
not shown any nipping behavior connected with the deafness. Her vet check and distemper were done on 8/22/03.
Lily and
Lizzy ADOPTED 9-06-03
Baby Girl ADOPTED 9-04-03
Baby Girl is a young ferret (perhaps 6 months old) who was found stray when some dogs chased her under a deck. She
arrived at FVF with what appeared to be a bad respiratory infection. She received two courses of antibiotics, but
continued sneezing. She is alert, playful and is eating and drinking. We recently took a chest x-ray, which showed clear
lungs, but bronchi that suggested allergies or asthma. She was given an allergy shot and this helped. We followed up with
several days of prednisolone and this has stopped the symptoms. We now believe Baby suffers from allergies and it is
possible she will need seasonal treatment. Her vet check and distemper shot were done on 8/22/03. Daisy and Benji ADOPTED 9-01-03 Daisy and Benji
are incredibly sweet ferrets. We do not believe them to be much over a year old.
They are playful, but love to be held and are the closest thing to "lap ferrets" that we have seen aside from very elderly animals. Daisy is a tiny dark sable, while Benji is a large light sable. Vet check
and distemper done on 7/25/03.
Blue ADOPTED 9-01-03 Blue is a large young male, reportedly 7-8 months old as of August. He is very playful and
active, and although he arrived as a single, he has been absolutely thrilled to have other ferrets to play with. He is a great wardancer and gets very enthusiastic in his hops and jumps. He is
very sweet and would do well in a family with older kids and other ferrets. Vet check and distemper done 8/5/03.
Chompers and Timone ADOPTED 8-22-03 Chompers and Timone
are females approximately 6-8 months old. They are happy playful girls who need some socialization. Chompers especially needs someone who will give her patient, gentle redirection when she gets too aggressive. They also need to be taught what a litter pan
is for. Vet checks and distemper done 7/22/03. Celia ADOPTED 8-11-03
Junior ADOPTED 6-08-03 Junior is around 3. He is sweet, lovable and healthy, although he is a sneaky toe biter, and is
not descented. He spent his life with other ferrets, and should not be considered as an only. He does tend to try to dominate other ferrets, but would
do okay with another male who is equal to him in size. Cujo (see below) would likely be a good match for Junior. Junior
can get temperamental, but would do well with an experienced ferret owner. He had his vet check and distemper shot on 7/25/02.
Cujo ADOPTED 6-08-03 Cujo
had been placed, he was returned when a relationship broke up. According to the family, he was definitely the
man's ferret, sleeping on the couch when he watched tv. Unfortunately, he did tend to bite the woman. He is 2 ½ to 3,
very rambunctious and playful. He has always been with other ferrets and needs a home with an experienced ferret owner
who is willing to give him the time and attention he needs. Vet check and distemper done on 4/25/03. Mercury
ADOPTED 6-04-03 Mercury
is a friendly, older ferret. He was born in April 97. Mercury is blind in one eye and tends to "paddle" when he
walks. He likes to be held and gives kisses. He is used to being with another ferret and should not be considered as an only. Vet check and distemper done on 4/25/03. Khan and Vince ADOPTED 5-17-03 Khan and Vince (see pictures
)
arrived together and would really like to stay together. Sophie has since passed away; please see her eulogy. Sophie and Kahn are dark sables, Vince is a blonde. They are reportedly about 4 years old, with
Sophie and Khan having birth dates in Spring 1999, and Vince having a birth date late summer of the same year, although
their teeth seem to indicate that they are perhaps a year younger. According to their previous owners, Vince is an
instigator, and Khan is "lazy", gives kisses and steals remote controls. We have noticed he liked to be carried around and cuddled. They had their vet check and distemper shots on 4/18/03. Buddy ADOPTED 5-12-03 Buddy is probably 2 ½-3. He is sweet and healthy but had an extreme vaccine reaction, which nearly killed him and cannot be vaccinated again
. His current vaccination is good until October, 2003. He spent his life with other ferrets and
should not be an "only". He has bullied a young, small female but has done well with other adult females and males.
Delilah ADOPTED 5-5-03 Delilah
is a small dark able, probably 4-4½. She arrived in a group of eight; she is the last of this group classified as
adoptable who is still available. She had her vet check and distemper shots on 10/16/02. TEMPORARILY ON HOLD (adrenal surgery done on 4/03/03). Juvie and Mitts ADOPTED 4-25-03 Juvie and Mitts
are older girls, probably 5-6, which will hurt their chances of adoption. However, both are very people
oriented, healthy and active. They would appreciate a loving home for the time they have left. They were vet checked and had their distemper shots on 10/26/02. Bandit ADOPTED 3-26-03
Bandit is a very nice girl, approx. 4 years old. She is sweet tempered and mellow. She underwent successful adrenal
surgery on 10/9/02. Her fur has started growing in and she is ready to meet prospective owners. She has been with other
ferrets for quite some time, and would do best with another ferret around her age. Her distemper was done on 7/11/02. Peanut
and Rascal ADOPTED 3-26-03 Peanut and Rascal
arrived together with another ferret considered too old for adoption. They can be separated into
pairs for adoption. Rascal is about 4. Rascal is albino and had successful adrenal surgery on 11/19 and should begin
regrowing her coat within the next few weeks. Peanut is about 2 ½ and is blind, but it is not slowing him down in the least.
Gracie is about 2. She is a tiny girl. Both Gracie and Peanut have very pretty markings. All four are very sweet and need
to gain a little weight. The had been fed Kitten Chow by their former owner and are still getting used to ferret food. They were vet checked and had their distemper shots on 11/8/02. Gracie ADOPTED 3-14-03 Gracie
is about 2. She is a tiny girl. Both Gracie and Peanut have very pretty markings. All four are very sweet and
need to gain a little weight. The had been fed Kitten Chow by their former owner and are still getting used to ferret food. They were vet checked and had their distemper shots on 11/8/02. Venture and Cushy ADOPTED 2-28-03 Venture and Cushy are young males (just over 1) who were adopted in Dec but an unexpected change in the family's
living situation made it necessary for them to come back to FVF. Since being with this couple, the nipping behaviors
previously shown have almost disappeared. Cushy and Venture have also bonded and must now be adopted as a pair. They had their vet checks and distemper shots on 10/26/02. Echo and Cloud ADOPTED 2-13-03 Echo and Cloud are between 2 and 2½ years old. Echo is a beautiful blonde girl, Cloud is a big albino male. They are
playful and friendly, and although Cloud is deaf, he has shown no nipping behavior. These ferrets have been around kids, cats and a large dog. They had their vet check and distemper shots on 12/20/02. Spunky ADOPTED 1-27-03
Spunky arrived with three other ferrets on Friday Sept 13th
. Two of his friends were adopted, one died from complications of a bladder cyst. Spunky is between 1 ½ and 2, friendly and playful. He had his vet check and distemper
shot on 9/20/02. Because Spunky has been with other ferrets all his life, he must be adopted with another ferret or
adopted into a home with ferrets. He would be a good match for Fuss (see below) since both are very rambunctious. Levi and
Loki ADOPTED 1-24-03 Levi and Loki were left at Bay Area Humane's
"night drop" on Dec 22. They are probably about 2 years old and are obviously very much a pair. Since arriving at FVF they have been very sweet tempered and seem to enjoy playtime,
although they seemed kind of confused by the concept at first. A vet check and distemper shots are pending. Fuss ADOPTED 1-22-03 Fuss
is a young male, about 1. He is friendly and playful. He would like a home with other young ferrets to play with, and
plenty of attention. He had his vet check and distemper shot on 7/30/02. He would be a good match for Spunky (see above). Tasha and Badger
ADOPTED 1-18-03 Tasha and Badger. Tasha is a tiny female who is 1 ½-2 years old. Badger is a big beautiful boy who is 2 ½-3. They
are friendly and playful with no health issues. According to their previous owner they are pretty well litter box trained with
only an occasional "accident". These two are definitely bonded to each other and must stay together. They had their vet check and distemper on 10/21/02. Smokey ADOPTED 1-13-03
Smokey is
a sweet girl, probably about 5. She loves attention and is getting along great with the other ferrets here at
FVF, and would do well in a home with other ferrets around her age. She had her vet check and distemper on 11/1/02. Lately Smokey has seemed very taken with Jake (see below). Nona and Gilbert ADOPTED 1-11-03 Nona and Gilbert
are younger ferrets. We doubt that Gilbert is even a year old, and we believe that Nona is just over a
year. Gilbert is a big puffball of a ferret; Nona is a good size female. Both are friendly and playful, but Nona has been
known to nip when she is excited, or as a way to get attention. They had their vet check and distemper shots on 11/8/02. |
